Dr Harvey Maylor is Senior Fellow in Management Practice and an Associate Professor, at the Said Business School, University of Oxford. He teaches on the Major Projects Leadership Academy and the Saïd MSc in Major Programme Management, and leads their Leading Strategic Projects and SRO Fundamentals programmes.

He has worked as a consultant for governments, corporations and charities and, since 2021, is an Eminence Associate at Deloitte LLP.

His work is widely published in management journals and is highly cited. His main text (Project Management, Pearson, 5th edition 2022) is Europe’s best-selling PM text and has been translated into five different languages.

His research interests are in systems design and complexity in major projects and the integration of policy and project systems in government.

We find ourselves in a cultural moment of uncertainty as domestic and global challenges persist. Whether it is the cost of living crisis, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, or the war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, leadership is required more than ever and the importance of peace building critical. This year has been dubbed the year of voting, with more than two billion people heading to the polls in 2024. Quite simply, it is the biggest election year in history. And yet, democracy has never felt so fragile; it seems to be on the ballot itself.
